The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (Sokendai) will give a series of lectures and training cource for Asian students and young scientists in cooperation with five departments of the school of physical sciences (Space and Astronautical Science, Functional Molecular Science, Structural Molecular Science, Astronomical Science, and Fusion Science). Main topic of this year is "Science of Fluctuations and Structure Formation - Life, Material, and Space."

Asian Winter School of the Department of Fusion Science will be held jointly with "Toki Lectures on Simulation Science 2009" from Feb. 3, 2009 through Feb. 6 at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). Subtheme of the Department of Fusion Science in this year is "Spontaneous structure formation in plasmas." This course will contain lectures about basic plasma physics, plasma experiments aimed for thermo-nuclear fusion reactor, and simulations for fusion plasmas and complex phenomena of plasma. Tours of the Large Helical Device (LHD) and the virtual reality system "CompleXcope" are also planned. In addition, convivial party and session of poster presentation will be hold for mutual communication among participants and NIFS staffs.

We expect many participants who are interested in fusion / plasma research.
