The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (Sokendai) will give a series of lectures and training course for Asian students and young scientists in cooperation with five departments of the School of Physical Sciences (Functional Molecular Science, Structural Molecular Science, Astronomical Science, Space and Astronautical Science, and Fusion Science). Main topic of this year is " New eyes to explore the world ".        

Asian Winter School of the Department of Fusion Science will be held jointly with "Toki Lectures on Simulation Science 2011" from February 14, 2012 through February 17 at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). Subtheme of the Department of Fusion Science in this year is " New direction of plasma physics and fusion science for future energy ". This course will contain lectures about basic plasma physics, plasma experiments aimed for thermo-nuclear fusion reactor, and simulations for fusion plasmas and complex phenomena of plasma. Tours of the Large Helical Device (LHD) and the virtual reality system "CompleXcope" are also planned. In addition, convivial party and session of poster presentation will be hold for mutual communication among participants and NIFS staffs.

We expect many participants who are interested in fusion / plasma research.

Registration
The registration will be open from Nov. 1, 2011. The open of the registration is postponed until Nov. 8, 2011.
The deadline for registration is Nov. 25, 2011 (for international participants) / Dec. 25, 2011 (for participants in Japan).
Participation Fees
The participation Fees for this school is free.
Financial Support
Traveling and housing expense will be supported by Sokendai. However, total number of persons who will get the financial support is limited due to the budget. The financial support will be given on condition that you give a presentation about your ongoing research or future plans at informal poster session. The final decision of the financial support will be informed to applicants directly.
Convivial Party
We are planning to hold the convivial party on Feb. 14. The charge is 500JPY for student, and 3000JPY for staff. (This charge is not included in the financial support.)
